What are the rooming arrangements?

Students of the same gender will be rooming together in groups of 3 or 4, depending on the hotel.  Hotel rooms are furnished with either single or double beds; single beds sleep one person and double beds may need tobe shared.

Adults (23 years of age or older) are automatically placed in twin rooms unless a single room is selected and paid for at the time of enrollment. Single rooms are not available on night trains, cruises and ferries. The deadline for requests for single room upgrades is 60 days before departure. If parents are interested in staying in a room with his/her child, arrangements can be made through Explorica.  No other children will be roomed with an adult.

What  measures do you take to ensure my child is safe?

Our first priority is your child’s safety on the trip.  Students and parents will be organized into smaller groups with a lead chaperone to ensure that all travelers are accounted for.  Students are checked in to their rooms by a chaperone every night, and picked up for breakfast every morning. Chaperones also do mid-night walks through the halls to ensure student safety.

For more security specific to Explorica, please visit the company’s Security and Safety Guide.

How will we be informed of your activities on the trip?

Our Explorica tour director will create a tour diary and share information on the trip.  In addition, the lead chaperones will invite parents to a closed Facebook group, where pictures and updates will be shared.  Parents are encouraged to invite family and friends to view and save pictures.
